Towards a Roadmap for Peace in Korea
Representatives of American and Korean churches, humanitarian agencies, the United Nations, academia and other sectors meet in Washington, DC on June 16-18 to press for a "Korean roadmap" for lasting peace and prosperity on the Korean peninsula.
Building on their longstanding relationship, Korean and American churches seek to address the political and humanitarian crisis in Korea in view of recent breakdown in dialogue between the US and North Korea and the continuing threat of war involving North Korea.
The meeting is sponsored by the Church World Service, a humanitarian agency, and the National Council of Churches USA, the nation's leading ecumenical organization. CWS, NCC and their 36 member denominations have for more than 20 years been working together with North and South Korean counterparts in peace building, reconciliation and humanitarian assistance.
Recommendations from the meting will be shared with US Congress, the While House, State Department and Pentagon.
